Map Out a Weekly Schedule and Set Boundaries

Why is this important?

Having a written schedule for each week, printed out and posted by the computer or device where you do your teaching, is a critical part of your own self-care. Consider the schedule to be a set of boundaries meant to protect you, and then hold yourself to them. That’s how you can be there for your students next week—when you can make adjustments if you need them.

How do I do it?

The different ways of spending time are like moveable pieces of furniture. Think about your own best ways of working and what you know about what best serves your students, and then place them inside a schedule that makes the most sense. Share the times you’re available with families, and then be sure to post an auto-generated response when you’re not available. See the following page for one example of a weekly schedule.
